Online confessional…

Let’s play truth. I was once told by a friend that her religious advisor put her on spiritual detox. He told her that if she was ready to turn a new leaf, create a new path for herself, she would have to purge her soul of all the bad deeds she had committed. To do this, she would have to seek forgiveness of those she had wronged. There’s no way in hell I could do that I told her. I’ve wronged a lot of people in a lot of different ways.

Sure, I feel guilty about a lot of the things I’ve done, but mostly embarrassed, and a little shocked at what led me to make some very bad decisions. Over the years I’ve kind of held on to these things. Never told anyone about them. Maybe you have some secrets, too?

Secret #1: I lived in a house that had been mythologized in my town. It was made of white marbelized brick, had romanesque statues in front of the house, had a tennis court, etc. To make my point clear- we were wealthy. Probably the wealthiest people in town. I wasn’t allowed to have a job because my parents believed that that was beneath their child’s station. So… they gave me money. More than enough to buy pizza after games, hairspray at Wal-Mart, and alcohol on the weekends. My best friend had a job. She and I had been best friends since 2nd grade. We’re still friends today. One night she stopped off at the bank. She was withdrawing something like $100 from her account. I snagged $20 from the wad of money. When we stopped, she counted the money and realized there was money missing. I kept asking her if she was sure. Threw in a few expletives to dramatize my surprise. Told her that she needed to count her money as soon as she gets the money, so that she can complain right away. Still bothers me today.

Have you ever stolen from a friend and lied to them about it afterwards?
